Sometimes multiple pumps are used along the discharge pipeline, providing additional power to the discharge pumping system of these dredgers. The dredger and booster pumps/boosters stations together can then reach long distances.
Booster pumps/booster stations may be based on land or on a floating platform and may be almost as powerful as the dredger they are supplementing. Occasionally, they are placed on the deck of a vessel but usually they are attached to the floating pipeline along its way from ship to shore.
