Booster pumps/booster stations can be used with trailing suction hopper dredgers and cutter suction dredgers. Sometimes multiple pumps are used along the discharge pipeline, providing additional power to the discharge pumping system of these dredgers. Booster pumps/booster stations may be based on land or on a floating platform and may be almost as powerful as the dredger they are supplementing. Occasionally, they are placed on the deck of a vessel but usually they are attached to the floating pipeline along its way from ship to shore.
